Postby rhjones19 » Sat Aug 25, 2018 12:06 pm

I have a load of my cards catalogued in Excel, saved as a xlsm file.

Is there a way I can import it into MTG studio?

You will have to save the file as a generic CSV and use the import option. The import option in MTG Studio is:

File -> Import...

After that, you'll want to select "Collection" from the import wizard and then "Generic CSV format (Card Name, Set, Qty, Foil, Price, Condition, Notes)". Depending on how your Excel file is formatted you might have to modify it to fit the format of the CSV file. There is an example "ImportCollection.csv" file in the install folder of MTG Studio.

Have you suceeded?
Maybe there are other, faster ways, but it not then
- you need to save your import list as "Generic CSV file"
- there should be exactly seven columns with headings as follow: Name,Set,Qty,Foil,Price,Condition,Notes
- IMPORTANT - heading names must be separeted with comma
- "set" is actually 3 letter code - DOM for Dominaria etc.

I prepared file with only names, set and Qty columns filled in, all others left blank
And it worked for me :)

Well, now I have a question and to avoid duplicating the threats, put it here:

1) How to import cards with comma in the card name using Generic CVF file?
Take "Sarkhan, Fireblood" for example. I tried to import CSV with such name (comma after the first part of the card name) and resulted with:

Severity: Warning Import Inventory 15-10-18 16:55:43 Card Sarkhan from Fireblood edition was not found in MTG Studio card pool.

Sad but true. I tried various versions:
no comma "Sarkhan Fireblood"
semi-collon "Sarkhan; Fireblood"
dot "Sarkhan. Fireblood"
floor "Sarkhan_Fireblood"
None worked.
So - is there a way to import "Sarkhan, Fireblood", "Sai, Master Thopterist" etc cards from CSV file?

Adding those cards from the pool to the collection manunally will be a bit of pain

2) How to merge the same cards after they are in the collection (assume that you did "append" instead of "merge" while importing? Other then manually reduce quantity in one line and manually increase the qty in the next.....

3) How to mark foil cards in CSV import file? There is a column "Foil".
Assume that you have 3 Aven Sentry inc. 1 foil. I tried to import it like this:

Name,Set,Qty,Foil,Price,Condition,Notes
Aven Sentry,DOM,3,1,,,

And I get 3 copies of Aven but no foil

Thanks in advance for any tips.
