Hello,

I will suppose you have created your back-up with the built-in MtG:S feature.

There are at least two different methods. Here is one. The method assume you have done the backup with the same MtG:S version as the one you're using now.

When you have done your backup you have a file called like this backup-2016-01-01.collection, somewhere.

Close MtG:S.
Copy that file backup file to you MtG:S installation directory (such as E:\Program Files (x86)\MTG Studio).
Make a copy of the existing mtgstudio.collection file (or mtgstudio_portable.collection if you're using MtG:S portable version), then delete the orignal
Rename the backup-file to mtgstudio.collection or (mtgstudio_portable.collection if you're using the MtG:S portable version).

That's it. Once you'll run MtG:S, you will have the collection as it was when you've done the back-up.

How do you restore from backup, on different MTG Studio Versions (3.9 vs. 4.0)?

A little bit of context and a feedback about the previous solution, can be useful...
What are you trying to do ?
Have you tried what I suggested previously ?

Yes, I did try that other suggestion. For context: I have a large collection that was given to me several years ago. I have been systematically adding each new card(s) I acquire to keep a running total of it's number, value, set. etc. When I had to reload and transfer over to my new PC, I did the backup option in MTG Studio 3.38, saved to an external HDD, and then loaded my system. I have tried to do the Import function from a previous version, and I get a popup dialogue box with numerous errors. I tried the suggestion that you posted a few days ago, and my MTG Studio crashes, needing a fresh reinstall of the program. Any other ideas? BTW, I also sent in a bug report to Gad, to let him know my problem.

Have you tried to copy the MtG Studio directory from the old PC to the new one ?

I only backed up the collection file, so no. I though since the program installs and integrates with Windows, and the registry, it would cause problems. Any other ideas?
