1.6.2 Beta - Filter on card pool

Postby Scytale » Wed Oct 01, 2008 3:06 am

A minor but annoying problem is that the dash used in the type field is not a normal dash, e.g.

Card pool says "Creature — Dragon"

Card pool dash: —
Normal dash: -

This means you cannot readily use the keyboard to type your filter criteria. You have to do a cut-n-paste from another creature name or just pick one, delete and retype.

Wow, a post for some reason I have not read for almost an year! Sorry for that (I guess my RSS reader is to be blamed).
Yes your suggestion is very good. I guess I am too hooked to Alt+0151 which is the way to add the — (long dash) and it did not payed attention that this can be tricky.

There is no easy solution to this since if I replace all short dashes with a long ones there will be no way to search for short ones. Hmm let me think a bit over this.

Anyway, I will add your suggestion to my todo list.

A simple way that I have seen in other applications is to say:

- = -
-- = —

Basically don't replace the first dash but if someone types two together then replace it with a long one. This allows for very fast typing though of course you need some tooltip to explain it.

Your idea (as usual) is fantastic - simple and straight forward.
This feature has been implemented in the forthcoming MTG Studio 1.6.6.

Oh, Oh. I have just read this. Off to quickly download it 1.6.5.

This should make life so much easier on the filtering!

Note that it is not currently present in 1.6.5 but will be 1.6.6. Since you are registered user I can send you the fixed executable (called quick fix) over email?

I am trying this with the 1.6.6 beta and I cannot get this to work.

My use-case is:

Open MTGS, click into the 'Type' filter at the top of the card pool, enter 'creature -- '

My expectation is that after typing the second - that is switches the '--' into '—'. This would allow the continuation of typing out the creature type. At present this does not happen or was something else intended.

Please try to change the focus to another edit field in order to see the effect. Also be sure you are using 1.6.6.

Would it be possible to have this trigger whilst typing (on key press event?) as having to move focus out and then back in (to continue typing) kind of defeats the intuitive nature of it.

Possible but not easy to achieve. I added this request to the backlog as I129 at http://www.mtgstudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... =3107#3107.

Btw, this replacement of -- with — feature will be available in the forthcoming 1.6.7 not in 1.6.6 as stated above.
