Collection back up

Postby Labadie » Sun Apr 03, 2011 9:48 pm

Is it really that simple???

Under "tools" I then see "locate my collection". Do I just copy THAT one small file to a usb jump drive, and I'm safe from a hard drive crash????

Amazing!

Yep. You figured it out. This is the only file needed to have a backup of your collection.

You can write a simple BATCH file to do the backup for you on the USB drive and run it on a scheduled basis using Control Panel|Schedule Tasks.

I'm sure there are better ways but my batch file looks like this.

copy mtgstudio_portable.collection "X:\MTGBackup"
pause

I just put the .bat file in the same location as my collection file. Then I just created a shortcut to it on my desktop.

I would also suggest exploring the http://www.dropbox.com software.
I use it every day. It keeps in sync my files at home with the office PC, with my laptop and my iPad.
Since I started using it I pretty much forgot about backups since if I accidentally delete a file on my home PC, I can restore it from their web site or from my work PC anytime.

My virus software flipped out when I installed drop box. I prefer to be paranoid and safe so I'm staying away from it. It may be perfectly fine but I'd rather not take the chance.

I just do it manually but I'm also not managing a huge amount of collections yet and am hoping that the multiple collections feature makes it high enough on the voted list to be in before I do.
