Two off topic questions...

Postby Schwanke » Sun Aug 22, 2010 7:56 am

My first question is, is there any desire for an off topic forum for here? I actually really would just like to see a place to discuss mtg stuff with people who are obviously interested in mtg or they wouldnt be getting a studio for it hehe. :D

As a side note to this...

This site is kind of peculiar to me because its such an awesome program for such a minimal amount of money (free updates for life is insane in my opinion for any specialized db app) yet the boards get used once every 2 to 4 days and the feedback only has probably a couple hundred people on it. Its kind of like a cult following kind of thing which doesnt say anything bad about it just that it hasnt become that 'huge hit' that it probably should be.

I just dont understand why there isnt a larger following here. I guess it could be that it took me a few searches to find the application but its not like I found others before this. This was the first one I found that seemed remotely decent and once I got to know it was really excited about it.

Getting back to my original question...

Assuming there isnt that big of a huge need or use for a off topic forum to discuss mtg stuff can anyone recommend a good mtg site for discussing mtg stuff that is accepting of idiot/newbs like me? I havnt played an actual game in 10 years and dont have any local hobby shops to play at and cant afford to pay for online.

Currently my plan is to enlist my mom to play lol so I can have someone to play with (she loves vampires so probably a vampire deck for her hehe) and the other is I am going to buy and resell cards and stuff on ebay for the fun of it and enjoying the cards as they pass through my hands. I could really use a place to ask stupid/newb questions about cards and decks and editions and stuff where they arent going to yell at me because I dont play 6 hours a night three nights a week at the local basement/dungeon hobby shop lol. :D

Thanks! Sorry to be off topic this far gaddlord if thats a no no. Just dont know where else to ask since this is the only 'hobby' site I trust to ask this kind of question to. Asked this question for a different hobby a few months ago and got my head handed to me.

There was such forum section at the beginning but it was really having like 10-20 posts and most of them were able to qualify for the General Discussions section. Feel free to use General Discussions section for off topic stuff.

The program has been downloaded by more than 130'000 unique IP addresses and has literally thousands of users.
It never targeted to dethrone MTG Online. MTG Studio target is to replace the non-supported any more Magic Workstation. And until a multi player is available this will not be a fact.

Feel free to promote MTG Studio and buzz about it.

You can always refer to mtgnews.com, wizards.com forums, starcitygames.com, blackborder.com for some really Magic related stuff. Another reason is that I personally don't play the game (even though I know all of its peculiarities) and have a collection of only 122 cards. I have a strong interest in Magic but not as a game but more as an effort to transform it to a set of usable tools for day to day usage.

No worries. Be very welcome to ask anything related to Magic, not only MTG Studio. We have some really wonderful Magic-specialists as our forum users which may help you or just chat with.

G'day Schwanke........sorta going down the same route as you!

I am a collector more than a player really, and thinking about changiing that.
I play the Planeswalker server and that is giving me quite a nice starter feel for the game. I thought about the Magic Online but I'm also a WoW online player, so I probably spend too much time gaming online.

Think I might have to front up and go down to the local Friday night thing.

If you fancied doing a few card swops....... we could get into that? Especially as we now have a great way of comparing card prices!

Hehe, like your other post I forgot I made this original post lol.

I finally did enlist my mom and we just played our first game on monday. She LOVES it. Woot! Hehe. We only got half way through a game after 2 hours. (First game we played we played showing our hands and discussing strategy since she never played and I hadnt played in 10 years.) We decided to stop for the day when she had me down by 10 points and then I brought out 7 2/2 wolves hehe. Woulda been there a long time after that counting counters every turn lol.

I've considered magic online for the sake of playing with my wife who currently lives in australia (I'm in new jersey/usa) but for the moment we cant afford the money it would cost to constantly buy cards on top of a monthly fee if there was one. Atleast with the real ones I can resell them and get some money back.

Thank you for the offer on swapping but I am not at a point yet where I need individual cards. I am more currently buying booster boxes discount on ebay. (Bid low and get lucky occasionally) and then pulling them appart and trying to resell them for more then I paid.

Gunna be hard work and possibly unlikely I will make anything more then 10 or so dollars a booster box but who knows. I think the real money is in that random rare thats worth over half the cost of the box. God only knows if I'll get any hehe.

Maybe in the future I will turn more towards a 'normal' player, needing wanting specific cards, etc. I just know right now its too complicated for me to build my own deck. We're currently playing the default red and green planeswalker decks just to get used to the game and actually play. Maybe after 10 or 20 games we will start modifying decks. Also tryin to get my dad into it. Though he has one of those IQs that scares people so he would probably obliterate both of us but we're gunna try a two headed beast against him maybe or something lol.

I wish I could play the local friday night or whatever night it is around here but I seem to be in a mtg dead zone. The only place that plays local is a town away and no parking that I can access. :( The local hobby shop the guy doesnt even play and just sells the latest 6 edition boosters at typical 4$ prices.

Good to chat. Talk you both soon hehe. :) Wish I had seen your reply gad, feel embarrased I didnt lol.

Oh last comment. http://mtgsalvation.com for someone who is interested in a great place for a newb to talk and get used to things again. I was gunna answer that to the original poster until I realized it was me! lol!

The BIG secret here , Schwanke, is to let your Mum win! lol

I think your idea of playing with your wife is cool. As far as I recal, it is just a one off payment of $10 or so. You have to buy cards but there are cheap ways of doing that.............>

http://www.mtgoacademy.com/training/

check it out.

Also Planeswalker has a one off payment through "Steam". You can also play online there and I think the one off payment is about 10 bucks also.

Lol. Its fun when my mom wins at stuff. She does like the 16 year old boogie dance. "oh yeah.. oh yeah.. i beat you.. i beat you.." lol. Gotta keep in mind that she has a hard time understanding games. She isnt stupid its just that she thinks in a way that is incompatable with most of the games I like. She learns hands on so after 10 or 20 games shell get the hang of it and give me a run for the money.

We just tried to create the accounts for mtgo and the system barfed on the fact that her address is in australia but my paypal which I tried to pay with is listed as new jersey. When I hit pay it gave me some wierd paypal error and then bumped me back to the mtgo site and claimed I payed. Doubt I'm getting a free subscription lol so I now I gotta go round with customer support and try to convince them no really I am married to someone in a different country with a different last name and I really do pay all her internet bills and I am not a scammer trying to scam you and paypal lol.

I'll have to checkout plansewalker, hadnt thought of that. She's a pokemon person too and ive been interested in it so we're tryin to find some pokemon stuff online too. Found pokemon world online to start with but its beta and every time we try to play the server is down lol. Cant win.
