Smart Collections

Postby mystiqu » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:03 pm

I?d like to see "Smart Collections" as a feature :)
A Smart Collection is like a smart playlist in e.g. Spotify, where u list all music by a specific artist och within a specific time span.

In MTG Studio this would be:
-List all cards in set xyz or
-List all cards with the word "infect" in the description/text or
-List all cards which are: Rare + Green + Creature.
... and so on

Yeah I was wondering this as well.

You can already filter by set or by creatures with infect, etc.

The filter feature is a glorified search function only  , and even if you can save it, its not very practical today.

Think of a view with all your collections - a collection can be either a normal collection with a bunch of cards manually added, or a "smart collection" which lists all cards based on a certain set of parameters (year, set, type, bla bla).

Example view:
-The complete M12 set (Smart Collection: Set=M12)
-My Black Collection (all my black cards)
-My Red Collection (all my red cards)
-Infect Creatures (SC: "Description contains 'infect' + type='creature')

U see my point? :)

Today the collection is only one big "pile of crap" - all your cards on this huuuuge list, which is a very blunt tool to keep track of your cards.

As there is no "multiple collection files", you can filter your collection by the criteria you like, then create a "deck" with all those cards. There will be no synchonisation between the collection content and the "smart list", but this is the closest to what you're asking... if you do not want to use the filter.

I do understand what you're looking for, but as I'm used to filter a lot...

Since what is smart for you may not be the smart choice for me and there are multiple properties and values to be picked from (release date, sets, colors, etc.)...

I kind of see a bit of this "Smart Collection" feature as follows:

1. you make you Filter selection (filter our non-red cards) and non-creatures
2. you make your Group By selection
3. make your Sort By columns selection
4. and then save your settings as "Smart Filter" giving it a short meaningful name.

You will be able to manage your Smart Filters (add new, overwrite existing, delete) from the Search menu.

Does this make any sense?

That's nice.

You can, maybe, include some pre-made smart filters such as "Type 2", "Modern", "Legacy"...
