pricing in the program

Postby booleys » Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:47 pm

Could you add a database/table file of all cards and their list-prices... then add a column in the program that lists that price. Also add a field in the filter to filter cards outside of a given price range. Perhaps have the program check periodically for a hosted up-to-date price list file as well.

reason why: not all MTG players are named Daddy Warbucks or Mr. Moneybaggs... sometimes we have to design decks around the price of cards, rather than the cards... I've designed several decks, found that several cards run for over $10 each and had to drop the deck after wasting the time developing it.

it is a nice idea but i see a few problems tho.

localization of prices for each card. i can imagine that a certain card would cost... lets say 10 cent here in Holland but the same card in Argentina might cost 2 cent or maybe 30 cent. Hope you get the point im trying to make ;)
sure you can make differnt price databases for every country but that would be a lot of work to setup and maintain and also wich brings me to my second point;

how do you decide what a realistic and/or accurate price is for a card?
when i look at 3 different internetsites here in Holland that sells magic cards i'll find 3 different prices for the same card. And when i go to the local card shop around the corner of the street there will be again different price for the same card.
Serra Angel for example. when i looks at 3 internetshops here in Holland i can buy that card for ?4 at the first shop, ?6 at the second shop or ?10 at the third shop. So the biggest price gap is ?6 and the smalles gap is ?2
?2 doesnt sound that much but if it is ?2 extra or less for everycard you put in your deck it can make the difference between stay within your budget or going over your budget.

anyway that is just my ?0.02 ;)

About the Price-lists:

First cof all we consider that feature and it will be available in the future.
The prices for eaach sinngle card would be provided by external companies we are working with:

Coolstuff, Inc.
CardShark
Magic Traders
Hastur
Wizards Cupboard

most of those sites are quite popular arround.

We have developed a specific API for working with those external vendors. Currently this service is running with Wizards Cupboard prices. In the next versions the Price Lists functionality will be available.

On that site it cost $4.25 that is about ?3.09 if im correct and that means another price difference :?

You should understand that there is no "THE PRICE", there are PRICES. Each different store has different prices, different quality and quantity of cards, delivery service, etc.

The idea is being able to see as much as possible price lists from different sources not only ONE PRICE. Being this way you will usually choose the lowest one from a good well-known source. We will try to in-build as much online stores as possible.

update?

Postby Jm7o » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:22 pm

Hey Gad,

just wondering if this feature set is nearing release?

i was dinking around with another online-only deck editor (nowhere near as good as mtg studio) but it did have a 'gatherer' type deck pricing --
and that was pretty cool!

http://essentialmagic.com

mainly, i was looking to see what a random sampling of my decks were 'worth'

what would have been really cool, is if the program would allow for auto-importing into an inventory list and showing a price per card, not just the deck total...

it also doesn't allow for choosing editions of cards --

actually, the list of things that it doesn't have is WAY bigger than the list of things it does have -- MTG Studio is still the best --

but it does have a price checker...
;)
